Sustainable Development
Sustainable forestry development forms the basis of plantation-pulp-paper integration, which has been recognized as the best way for the global pulp and paper industry to achieve sustainability. APP-China, one of the most active advocates and practitioners of the integration, is committed to applying the scientific forestry development guidelines to all its operations, which includes: Managing Legal Compliance, Managing with Science & Technology, Managing Plantation Ecosystems and Managing Plantations in a Sustainable Manner.
By the end of 2012, APP-China had managed over 300,000 hectares of plantations in China on government approved degraded, waste or low value lands. Through sustainable management, these plantations not only provide raw materials for paper production, but also benefit the environment and provide employment to local farmers.
As a leader in the global pulp and paper industry, APP recognizes that a sustainable paper industry is attainable only by managing conflicts surrounding growing market demand, environmental concerns and the lack of resources. In the past few years, APP-China strictly followed what it committed in the manifesto throughout the operations and continuously progressed in the three key areas of sustainable plantation, clean production and corporate social responsibility to realize an equal balance of the three pillars of sustainability that encompass economic, social and environmental development. Also, APP-China’s leadership and employees pledged our commitment to responsible papermaking and to participating in all environmental and sustainability development initiatives.
While developing its business, APP-China is also actively pursuing win-win results between enterprise and society. Up till now, APP has made a total donation of over RMB 640 million.
